 The President of "Petre Andrei” University of Iaşi, elected by the Senate during the meeting of 23.11.2009, is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sorin BOCANCEA.….About choosing Choosing is the hardest thing that we are free to do. And this is all the more true when you have a dream about what your life is going to be. This is why you have to choose who will help your dream come true. You will find willing people everywhere, people ready to choose on your behalf, people who are allegedly experts at solving your problems, but none of them will be ready to offer you a guarantee. And, as I know, my dear potential future colleague, that you do not lack advisors, I shall use the following lines to tell you what you will NOT find in the story of your student life if you choose to study at "Petre Andrei" University of Iași: - You will NOT be a number in a list, a statistical data or a report forwarded by a given commission to a given institution. As much as we love scientific rigour, calculi and statistics, for us, YOU will always have a proper name, a personality with everything it involves, aspirations, opinions, rights and responsibilities; - You will NOT remember us, your teachers, because on Monday we gave you tough problems to solve, on Thursday we were indisposed or particularly severe during reexaminations. You will remember us because we gave you good advice when you asked or because we offered you a good book when you needed it; - You will NOT spend some years of your life just to receive an A4 paper pretentiously formated, easy to send to the Labour Force or to keep in the familiy photo box. We will teach you how to transform that paper into a passport to the professional career to which you aspire; - You will NOT learn from us how to ask others to help you, but how to become a winner. Prof. Dr. Sorin Bocancea The President of the University has the following responsibilities: • Coordinates the strategic development programs and the institutional policies of the University; • Represents the University, together with the Rector or alone (with the Senate’s mandate), in courts of law, courts of arbitration or other bodies with legal prerogatives; • Represents the University, together with the Rector or alone (with the Senate’s mandate), in the relationships with banks; • Represents the University, together with the Rector or alone (with the Senate’s mandate), in the relationships with local or central public authorities and with public establishments, but cannot replace the Rector in the relationships with the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports and ARACIS, according to the laws in force; • Authorizes the financial operations of the University, with the Rector’s mandate or if the Rector’s position is vacant; • Undertakes any other responsibility mandated by the Senate, at the Rector’s proposition or at the proposition of at least two thirds of senators.
