About the university…

I could start by telling you that we are the largest and the most prestigious private university in the region of Moldova, that we were awarded the 6th place among Romanian universities in what regards our graduates' insertion into the labour market. I could tell you about the most impressive university building in Iași, about classrooms equipped to the latest standards, modern auditoriums, a gorgeous Great Auditorium, labs or about the over 25.000 books that await for you to discover them in our library. I could fill in these lines by telling you about the interesting experiences that await you at the European universities with which we have signed cooperation agreements, because we hold the Erasmus Charter, or about the European projects carried out by the university in which we encourage you to get involved. Of course, I could tell you about all these things, but you might think that other universities worldwide have also somptuous auditoriums, breathtaking buildings, welcoming rooms and libraries.
This is why I have chosen to tell you more about the story of ”Petre Andrei” University because it will help you understand what makes us DIFFERENT. Two decades ago, a handful of enthusiastic university teachers, thirsty for the freedom they had awaited for so long, eager to change the world, brought to life the ”Petre Andrei” project. I was one of them. I was a teaching assistant, I lived among students, I had suffered with them, I was there when famous student projects such as the newspaper “Opinia Studenţească” or the “Divertis” Comedy Group were born. I fell in love instantly with this project, which aimed at creating a university meant to be freer and more dynamic, “Romania’s little Oxford”, and that would follow the principles of one of the greatest Romanian sociologists, Petre Andrei. A university, he said, must not be a mere provider of information, it must shape the student's personality, it must form PEOPLE. I have invested 20 years of my life in this project and each time I step into a firm or institution and shake the hand of a graduate of ours, who is now appreciated by bosses, colleagues and the community, I say to myself that all my efforts have been worthwhile.

I invite you to join the other students who chose our courses and write your part in the story of “Petre Andrei” University of Iaşi!

Yours sincerely, Rector of ”Petre Andrei” University of Iași, Professor Dr. Doru Tompea
