🎓 Responsibilities of the President of the University Senate
The President of the Senate performs the following duties:
- Prepares, convenes, and chairs regular and extraordinary Senate meetings
- Invites the Rector, General Administrative Director, Vice-Rectors, department heads, and other necessary individuals to Senate meetings
- Proposes the agenda for Senate meetings
- Signs Senate decisions and meeting minutes
- Represents the Senate in its relations with the university’s executive and administrative leadership
- Concludes the management contract with the Rector on behalf of the university
- Communicates Senate decisions to the university’s executive and administrative leadership and monitors their implementation, reporting back to the Senate
- At the Senate’s request and on its behalf, invites representatives of executive or administrative structures to meetings or sends them written inquiries from the Senate
- Represents the Senate in relations with similar bodies from other higher education institutions, both domestic and international, and signs academic collaboration agreements and protocols
- Expresses the Senate’s position in the media
- Coordinates the Senate’s permanent and ad-hoc committees, as well as its secretariat
- Carries out any other activities assigned to them as Senate representative, within the scope of the Senate’s competencies
- Proposes the awarding of honorary titles

🎓 Responsibilities of the University Senate
The responsibilities of the Senate of “Petre Andrei” University of Iași are defined by Law no. 1/2011 and the University Charter (U.P.A.).
- The Senate guarantees academic freedom and university autonomy.
- It drafts and adopts the University Charter following consultation with the academic community.
- It deliberates and decides on the structure, organization, and functioning of the university, including:
✅ Decision-Making Powers
- Approves the regulation for the organization and functioning of the Senate
- Approves regulations governing the university and its internal units
- Approves the strategic institutional development plan and operational plans, based on the Rector’s proposal
- Approves the university’s structure, organization, and operations, in line with current legislation and at the Rector’s proposal
- Approves the budget proposal and its execution
- Approves methodologies and regulations for university operations
- Approves curricula developed by faculties and departments
- Approves staffing plans and academic personnel appointments
- Establishes and approves the academic calendar
- Sets and approves evaluation criteria for all categories of staff
- Approves partnerships, consortia, mergers, participation in European and international organizations, associations, and the creation of foundations or commercial entities, as well as the modalities for international cooperation
- Approves collaboration frameworks between university leadership structures and the labor union, student organization, and alumni association
- Approves the awarding of honors and honorary titles
- Approves the granting of sabbatical leave
